Debac is a Master of Cyber Security graduate who was working with CROW during his course of study. He was working as a Research Assistant for Dr. Vimal Kumar (Head of Cyber Security Lab) and Dr. Justin Kurland. The project was to research and develop an attack model for IoT devices - which will help security professionals figure out the attack surfaces that are exploitable by an attacker. Before joining the Cyber Security program at the University of Waikato, Debac did his bachelor's in Computer Science from Anna University, India.
During the course of study, Debac had an opportunity to express his skill set through the New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge (NZCSC) 2018 in which he was a part of the team "UniHack" that won the Physical Drone Challenge. Debac did his Dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Vimal Kumar. He built an "Automated BLE Penetration Testing tool" which helps a security professional assess the security of a BLE device by automating a list of attacks that need to be screened for, to prevent exploitation.
He has presented his security tool in New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge (NZCSC) 2019, Technology Research Showcase 2019 and Waikato Linux Users Group (WLUG). The passion for Cyber Security when integrated with his expertise in programming, Debac is now currently developing security tools - gaining hands-on practical experience. His areas of interest are Scripting, Penetration Testing and IoT.
